Wycombe Heights Golf Club

Wycombe Heights Ladies Section

About Us

The ladies section is a small but active and sociable part of Wycombe Heights Golf Club. The following members form the Ladies Committee:

  • Margaret Devlin - Handicap Secretary
  • Vivien Benzie - Treasurer
  • Michèle Gasper - Secretary
  • Sue Pearson, Anita Reed - Matches, Friendlies, and Social Events
  • Lynn O'Regan - New Member Contact and Website
  • Pauline Settle

We play competitions on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the year, some of which are qualifying (for handicap) competitions. On Tuesdays or Thursdays without a qualifying competition, we usually play social golf or a fun competition.

Any ladies who are only able to play at weekends are very welcome to join the Ladies' section. Please contact us via the ProShop or email Lynn (lynnoregan@gmail.com) or Michele (michelegasper@rocket-mail.com).

We enter several NAPGC (National Association of Public Golf Courses) competitions, a BCLGA (Bucks County Ladies Golf Association) summer league and a couple of independent competitions. We also play summer and winter knockout competitions within the club, friendly matches against other local clubs and several fixtures with or against the seniors section and the main club. Each year we have several away days and sometimes short breaks of one or two nights away.

New Members

We are always looking for new members and would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

For further information regarding membership to the ladies section please contact Lynn O'Regan (lynnoregan@gmail.co.uk) or Michèle Gasper (michelegasper@rocketmail.com).

Competitions - signing in, marking cards and entering scores

You need to sign in before playing a competition or general play, either on-line or using the tablet in the clubhouse.

At the start of your round agree who is marking your card, at the end agree your score with your marker. Fill in your details at Player A and then hand to your marker. Cards should only have "Player A" and "Marker". Please make sure you put your name in the marker box at the top of the card you are marking, so that if we need to look back at a card we know who the two scores belong to. Please make sure you fill in every box at the top of the card that you can - otherwise you risk disqualification.

As you can now post your scores online, please do so before you leave the club so that we can complete the competition and get a result. The easiest way to do this is either on your phone, or using the tablet in the Clubhouse. You can post other player's scores if necessary. To do so, just find their name in the drop down menu. Due to geo-fencing scores need to be entered before you leave the club.

Please drop your cards into the Ladies slot next to the tablet in case of queries.

Competitions- Information and future fixtures

All the competitions will be set up on-line and need to be booked well in advance. This is so that we can reserve the tee times before the booking system goes into operation for that day. So, competition bookings will close 11pm, 9 days before the competition. You will be able to choose a tee time, but only book in yourself. If later tee times are not full you may get moved up to an earlier time - but will get plenty of notice. No subsequent swapping of tee times please as the start sheet will go to the pro-shop and you will only be able to sign in for those times. You now need to "Sign In" for the competition that day, before you play. This can be done on the tablet in the clubhouse or from your phone. Please add up your £3 entry fees per competition (or £2 for 9 hole competitions) and pay the Ladies section at the end of each month, by BACS if at all possible. Details of the Ladies' bank account are obtained from Vivien Benzie our Treasurer.

If you would like a copy of our Terms of Competition please ask a committee member.

World Handicap System

As you will all know the World Handicap System is now well and truly bedded in and is now due for review. We have all learned a lot through the initial phases but please check the guides or ask the committee if you have a question.

Please see the below webpage with information produced by England Golf titled "Know The Score":

England Golf: Know the score

They have also produced a presentation about the rules of handicapping under the new system:

England Golf guide to World Handicapping System

In addition, for anyone wanting to watch some short videos on this information, the following YouTube videos are available to view;

World Handicap System, England Golf, You Tube videos

any questions please do not hesitate to speak to Margaret.

Just a reminder to check that you are playing off the correct handicap. You can check your handicap via the link https://whgolfclub.co.uk/handicaps.html or on the England Golf app.

New members: To obtain a handicap, if you do not already have one, you will need to play three 18-hole rounds with your card being marked by another WH Golf Club member who has a current handicap. One of these rounds must be with a committee member. We would be very happy to arrange these rounds for you. Once you have a handicap, you can enter the social golf events and competitions but you have to play in two qualifying competitions before you can win a prize. To play in any of the Knock-Out competitions or Majors you need to have played three competitions in the preceding year. This means you can get involved with all the activities of the Ladies Section very soon after joining.

If you already have a handicap from another club you obviously won't need to submit three cards to gain your handicap, but you must play in two qualifiers before you can win a prize in a competition. You will also need to give our handicap secretary your CDH number so that she can add you to our existing database.

Chosen Charity 2025-26: Chiltern Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association

The Committee have selected the Chiltern Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) as our chosen charity for 2026.This is how they describe themselves:

We are the local branch of a national charity. We fundraise locally and spend as much of our funds as we can on local people, living with MND (there are currently 39 in our area).

We set ourselves an annual fundraising target of £30,000. The funds we raise are spent in multiple ways:

Association Visitors – a trained, friendly face who 'gets it' visiting patients to chat, help and provide moral support

Support Meetings – a monthly get-together with other people living with MND, their carers, MNDA Chiltern volunteers and MNDA professional staff.

House alterations – we pay for/help pay for door widening, ramp building, bathroom alterations.

Necessary equipment – we fund stairlifts and other equipment to enable people to continue to live at home.

Treatments not provided by NHS – massage and other therapies

Cost of living allowances – families living with MND tend to lose both incomes. We help where we can.

Morale boosting – paying for a school trip for the son of a patient whose parents could no longer afford it, providing gardening services to enable a family to continue to use their garden, provide a carer for a day to enable the patient's wife/carer to take a rare day trip with her friend.

In addition, we pay a percentage of what remains, each year, to our National Office to be used in research and larger projects that can't be funded at a local level.

Ladies' Golf Section Committee

The Committee meets regularly to discuss and review how the ladies section is running. We are always happy to receive feedback on any ideas and issues that you may have.

Committee meeting minutes are circulated to all the ladies in the section.
